Are you in Transactional Analysis Training?

Concessionary Fees for Therapy sessions with me are available

Seeing me as your therapist if you are a person in Transactional Analysis Training

Current UKATA materials show that personal-therapy requirements vary according to the particular qualification or registration pathway. For exmaple, UKATA’s psychotherapy policy describes at least 40 hours annually over four years and therapy congruent with the psychotherapy being studied; other current UKATA material refers to therapists who are UKCP- or BPC-registered, or CTAs who are current EATA or ITAA members, subject to route-specific conditions.

The trainee should therefore verify the requirements with their institute, primary supervisor and relevant professional body rather than relying on a generic website assurance.

I remember being in TA training myself, and the experience of the continui=ous outlay of funds for training, books, memberships, journals, supervision, academic support and marking fees, conferences, CPD, travel expenses …. and personal therapy.

Given that personal therapy is a requirement towards becoming CTA and/or UKCP registration (similarly, requirements for therapy apply with other membership bodies) i do offer a concessionary rate for people in Transactional Analysis Training. You may be required to show evidence that you are in a training contract woth a recognised training Institue to qualify for the concessionary rate.

Personal Psychotherapy for Transactional Analysis Trainees

  1. PURPOSE OF THIS ADDENDUM

This addendum applies where I agree to provide personal psychotherapy to a person undertaking Transactional Analysis training.

It supplements:

My Terms of Service.

My Therapy and Counselling Agreement.

My Privacy Notice.

Any individually agreed concessionary-fee arrangement.

Together, those documents and this addendum form the agreement governing the work.

If a provision in this addendum addresses TA trainee personal therapy more specifically than the general documents, this addendum will apply to that trainee-specific matter.

The Terms of Service continue to govern booking, payment, cancellation, statutory consumer rights and general administration.

  1. PERSONAL THERAPY REMAINS THERAPY

The work provided under this agreement is personal psychotherapy.

It is not:

Training supervision.

Clinical supervision.

Course teaching.

Tutoring.

Examination.

Assessment of professional competence.

Performance management.

A placement review.

A recommendation for qualification.

A guarantee of UKCP, UKATA, EATA, ITAA or institute eligibility.

A substitute for the trainee’s primary supervision or training-group requirements.

The focus of therapy belongs to the trainee’s personal therapeutic process.

Although training experiences may naturally become relevant, therapy will not be organised primarily as an additional teaching or supervision session.

  1. TRAINEE RESPONSIBILITY FOR VERIFYING ELIGIBILITY

The trainee is responsible for confirming that I am an eligible personal therapist for their particular course, qualification, registration or examination pathway.

Before relying on sessions as countable training hours, the trainee should verify the position with:

Their training institute.

Their principal trainer or course leader where applicable.

Their primary supervisor where applicable.

UKATA.

UKCP where relevant.

EATA or ITAA where relevant.

Any other membership, registration, accrediting or examining body governing their pathway.

The trainee should check:

The professional status required of the therapist.

Whether the therapist must be a CTA, UKCP registrant, BPC registrant, EATA or ITAA member, or meet another definition.

Whether the therapist must hold a particular TA field or speciality.

Whether the therapist may have another role in relation to the trainee.

Whether there are restrictions concerning a current trainer, tutor, examiner or supervisor.

The minimum number of personal-therapy hours.

The required number of years.

The required frequency.

Whether online therapy is accepted.

What evidence or signatures are required.

Any rules about breaks, group therapy or changes of therapist.

I will provide accurate information about my own qualifications, registration and professional memberships.

I do not accept responsibility for interpreting every requirement of every training route or for guaranteeing that a training body will count particular sessions.

  1. THE TRAINEE’S PERSONAL-THERAPY REQUIREMENT

Some TA psychotherapy training and registration routes require a minimum number of personal-therapy hours annually and over a specified number of years.

The exact requirement may vary according to:

The course.

The institute.

The qualification sought.

UKCP requirements.

UKATA policy.

EATA or ITAA requirements.

Transitional arrangements.

Previous training or therapy.

The trainee remains responsible for identifying and meeting the requirements that apply to them.

Any reference on my website or in discussion to 40 hours per year is a general description of a common requirement and is not a guarantee that 40 hours is the complete or exact requirement for every trainee or pathway.

  1. RESPONSIBILITY FOR BOOKING SUFFICIENT SESSIONS

The trainee is responsible for:

Knowing how many attended hours are required.

Booking sessions with sufficient frequency.

Taking account of their own holidays and absences.

Taking account of my holidays and availability.

Allowing for cancelled or missed appointments.

Monitoring progress towards annual and cumulative totals.

Raising any shortfall with their institute or supervisor.

Submitting attendance records by the relevant deadline.

I do not undertake to calculate, monitor or guarantee the trainee’s annual or total personal-therapy requirement.

A regular appointment does not guarantee that a trainee will accumulate the required number of hours within a particular year.

The trainee should review their totals regularly rather than waiting until the end of a training year.

  1. WHAT COUNTS AS AN ATTENDED THERAPY HOUR

I will confirm only therapy sessions that:

Actually took place.

Were attended by the trainee.

Can be verified from my records.

Meet any minimum duration or other criterion I am expressly required and able to verify.

A session that was booked and paid for but not attended is not an attended personal-therapy hour.

The following do not ordinarily count as attended therapy hours:

Cancelled sessions.

Missed sessions.

Fees retained under the cancellation policy.

Discovery calls.

Administrative discussions.

Emails.

Time spent preparing a letter.

Training or supervision.

A pause in which no therapy service was provided.

Where part of a session was lost through technical failure, I will record only what I can accurately and appropriately confirm, taking account of any replacement time subsequently provided.

  1. DISCOVERY CALLS

A paid discovery call is not personal psychotherapy and will not be signed or recorded as an attended personal-therapy hour.

Its purpose is to consider whether entering a therapeutic relationship may be appropriate.

  1. ATTENDANCE LOGS

I will sign reasonable attendance logs without an additional fee.

My signature confirms only information I can verify, such as:

The date of an attended session.

The duration of an attended session.

That the meeting was personal psychotherapy.

My relevant professional identity or registration details.

My signature does not certify:

The content of the session.

The trainee’s competence.

The trainee’s fitness to practise.

The trainee’s readiness for examination.

The trainee’s compliance with every course requirement.

That the institute or professional body must accept the hour.

That the trainee has completed their annual or total requirement.

That a particular qualification or registration will be awarded.

I will not sign:

Blank forms.

Inaccurate records.

Hours that cannot be verified.

Missed or cancelled sessions as though they were attended.

A retrospective total that cannot reasonably be checked.

  1. SUBMITTING LOGS FOR SIGNATURE

The trainee should provide logs:

In a clear and usable format.

With sufficient time before any submission deadline.

With the trainee’s own sections completed.

Using the process agreed between us.

The trainee remains responsible for checking that the completed document has been received and submitted to the correct organisation.

I cannot guarantee immediate completion.

Where a log requires unusual declarations, extensive historical reconciliation or additional correspondence, we will discuss whether further time or information is required.

  1. NO FEE FOR ORDINARY LOG SIGNATURES

I do not charge an additional fee for signing a reasonable routine attendance log.

This applies to straightforward confirmation of verifiable attended sessions.

A request that requires substantial additional work may fall outside routine log signing. Examples may include:

Reconstructing several years of incomplete records.

Producing a detailed narrative letter.

Completing an extensive assessment form.

Corresponding at length with an institute.

Attending a meeting.

Reviewing requirements outside my role.

Any proposed fee for additional work will be explained and agreed before that work begins.

  1. ATTENDANCE LETTERS

Where appropriate, I may provide a brief factual attendance letter confirming information that I can verify.

A brief routine confirmation may be supplied without charge where it serves the same function as signing an ordinary log.

A more extensive letter, professional observation or report is governed by the letters and reports provisions in my Terms of Service.

Any chargeable work will be scoped and priced before it begins.

  1. CONFIDENTIALITY

Personal therapy for a trainee is confidential within the limits explained in the Therapy and Counselling Agreement and Privacy Notice.

I will not routinely tell an institute, trainer, tutor, primary supervisor, examiner, UKATA, UKCP, EATA or ITAA:

What the trainee discusses.

What therapeutic themes arise.

My opinions about the trainee.

Whether I believe the trainee should qualify.

How the trainee behaves in therapy.

Whether the trainee has achieved a particular psychological outcome.

Ordinary attendance confirmation does not include therapy content.

  1. CONTACT FROM AN INSTITUTE, TRAINER OR SUPERVISOR

I will not ordinarily discuss the trainee with their institute, trainer or supervisor merely because that person contacts me.

Where a third party requests information, I will consider:

The trainee’s consent.

The purpose of the request.

Professional confidentiality.

Data-protection law.

The limits of my role.

Whether disclosure is required or justified by law, safeguarding or another professional obligation.

Consent to confirm attendance does not automatically constitute consent to disclose therapy content.

Where appropriate, the scope of any agreed communication will be specified before disclosure.

  1. LIMITS OF CONFIDENTIALITY

Confidentiality is not absolute.

The limits include circumstances involving:

Valid client consent.

Legal requirements.

Court orders.

Serious risk of harm.

Safeguarding.

Professional complaints.

Insurance or legal advice.

Establishing, exercising or defending legal claims.

Another lawful and professionally justified disclosure.

Where reasonably possible and appropriate, I will discuss a proposed disclosure with the trainee before it occurs.

There may be circumstances in which prior discussion is not possible, safe or lawful.

  1. RELATIONSHIP WITH THE PRIMARY SUPERVISOR

The trainee’s primary supervisor has a role distinct from the personal therapist.

I do not take responsibility for:

Supervising the trainee’s clinical practice.

Approving clients or placements.

Monitoring supervision hours.

Preparing the trainee for examination.

Assessing professional competence.

Managing the trainee’s training contract.

Resolving disputes with the institute.

The trainee should take training, practice and examination questions to the appropriate supervisor, trainer or institute.

Therapy may explore the trainee’s personal experience of supervision or training without becoming supervision itself.

  1. DUAL AND MULTIPLE RELATIONSHIPS

The TA professional community can be relatively interconnected.

We may encounter one another at:

UKATA events.

EATA or ITAA events.

Training conferences.

Workshops.

Professional meetings.

Online professional spaces.

Mutual professional networks.

Such encounters do not remove confidentiality.

I will not ordinarily identify the trainee publicly as my client.

The trainee may decide whether to acknowledge me.

Where a possible professional overlap could affect the therapy, we will discuss it.

I may decline a role or service where it would create an inappropriate conflict or multiple relationship.

  1. TRAINER, SUPERVISOR OR EXAMINER ROLES

Personal therapy should remain distinct from training, supervision and assessment.

I will not simultaneously undertake a role that I consider incompatible with being the trainee’s personal therapist.

Where I am invited to become a trainer, supervisor, examiner, endorser or assessor in relation to the trainee, I will consider:

Professional and training-body rules.

Power and confidentiality.

The effect on the therapeutic relationship.

Whether the roles can be appropriately separated.

Whether one role should be declined.

The trainee should also seek advice from their primary supervisor or institute.

  1. DISCUSSION OF TRAINING WITHIN THERAPY

The trainee may discuss:

Training experiences.

Supervision.

Clinical work, provided client confidentiality is protected.

Feelings about trainers or peers.

Professional identity.

Examination anxiety.

Group experiences.

Power, conflict or institutional dynamics.

These matters may be relevant to the trainee’s personal therapeutic process.

I will not use personal therapy to provide covert supervision, assess the trainee’s clinical decisions or direct their treatment of clients.

  1. CLIENT CONFIDENTIALITY WITHIN TRAINEE THERAPY

Where a trainee discusses clinical work, they remain responsible for protecting their own clients’ confidentiality.

The trainee should minimise or omit identifying information and follow the requirements of their institute, placement, supervisor and professional bodies.

My role as the trainee’s therapist does not replace their formal clinical supervision.

  1. CONCESSIONARY FEE

Where a concessionary rate is agreed, the following applies:

Standard session fee: [INSERT]

Agreed trainee fee: [INSERT]

Effective from: [INSERT]

Review date or review arrangement: [INSERT]

The concession is:

Personal to the trainee.

Subject to availability.

Not transferable.

Not guaranteed indefinitely.

Separate from the question of whether sessions count for training purposes.

I will normally give approximately two months’ written notice of a fee increase, unless another arrangement is expressly agreed.

  1. BOOKING AND PAYMENT

The ordinary booking and payment provisions in the Terms of Service apply.

Payment is normally made through Stripe when booking through WriteUpp.

Where a regular weekly or fortnightly appointment is agreed, payment by bank transfer may be available by individual arrangement.

A bank-transfer arrangement for a recurring time does not provide variable manual selection of different appointments from the available calendar.

  1. CANCELLATIONS AND MISSED SESSIONS

The cancellation, rescheduling, late-arrival and missed-session provisions in the Terms of Service apply.

A fee may remain payable for a late cancellation or missed session.

Payment of that fee does not turn the missed appointment into an attended personal-therapy hour.

The trainee is responsible for allowing for cancellations when planning how to meet their annual requirement.

  1. BREAKS AND FREQUENCY

The trainee should consider the effect of breaks or reduced frequency on their training requirements.

A therapeutic break may be clinically appropriate, but I cannot guarantee that an institute will disregard a shortfall in annual hours.

The trainee should consult their primary supervisor or institute where:

A substantial break is planned.

Attendance becomes irregular.

The required annual total may not be met.

The trainee intends to change therapist.

Online therapy or international attendance creates a question about eligibility.

  1. THREE-MONTH INACTIVITY

If the trainee does not attend or book a session for three consecutive calendar months and we have not expressly agreed an ongoing break or future appointment, I will normally regard the current period of therapy as having ended.

The trainee remains welcome to contact me again, subject to availability and review.

The trainee should not assume that an old booking link or concessionary place remains active indefinitely.

A return after a break may require:

Updated agreements.

Review of availability.

Review of the trainee’s current course and professional status.

Confirmation of current fee.

Renewed verification that I remain eligible for the trainee’s pathway.

  1. ENDING OR CHANGING THERAPIST

The trainee is free to end therapy or change therapist.

Where possible, an ending should be discussed.

The trainee is responsible for determining:

Whether a change must be reported.

Whether hours with different therapists can be combined.

What documentation is needed.

Whether the new therapist meets applicable requirements.

I will provide reasonable factual attendance confirmation for the work undertaken with me.

I cannot guarantee that a new therapist will accept the trainee or that an institute will accept every previous hour.

  1. CHANGES TO TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

Training, registration and examination requirements may change.

The trainee is responsible for checking current requirements rather than relying solely on information provided at the beginning of therapy.

I will provide updated information about my own professional status if it changes materially.

I do not undertake to monitor every change made by an institute or professional body.

  1. COMPLAINTS

The trainee may raise a concern or make a complaint under my Complaints Procedure.

The trainee’s status does not reduce their right to complain.

A complaint may concern:

The therapy.

Professional conduct.

Confidentiality.

Attendance confirmation.

Discrimination.

Data protection.

Fees or administration.

Using the internal procedure does not remove any right to contact UKCP, UKATA, the Information Commissioner’s Office or another appropriate organisation.

  1. DATA PROTECTION

Information about the trainee is processed in accordance with my Privacy Notice.

Records may include:

Contact information.

Booking and payment records.

Attendance.

Therapy notes.

Agreements.

Concession details.

Signed logs.

Relevant communications.

Risk or safeguarding information.

Complaints.

Information about the trainee’s institute or supervisor where necessary.

A request from a training body does not automatically override the trainee’s data-protection rights or therapeutic confidentiality.

  1. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

By accepting this addendum, the trainee confirms that:

They have been given an opportunity to read it.

They understand that personal therapy is distinct from training and supervision.

They remain responsible for verifying therapist eligibility.

They remain responsible for monitoring and completing required hours.

They understand that only attended sessions can be confirmed.

They understand that routine attendance logs are signed without charge.

They understand the limits of what my signature certifies.

They understand that therapy content is not routinely reported to their institute or supervisor.

They agree to raise questions about training requirements with the appropriate institute, supervisor or professional body.
