You are considering having online therapy. Here is some information to help you to make the decision about whether it is right for you.

The therapist will be, me, Vauna Beauvais, Certified Cybertherapist and UKCP accredited psychotherapist. You can find out more about me at the bottom half of the home page on this website. 

If you contact me to enquire about having sessions or to ask some questions you can expect to hear from me on the same day usually, or definitely within 2 business days at the most.

Possible Advantages and Disadvantages of Online Therapy

We will have our sessions on Zoom, which is a secure platform to video call each other. 
After our appointment has been agreed, booked, and paid, I will make the appointment in Zoom and send you the link. You don't need to have an account with Zoom. 
When it comes to the time of our session you click the link and you will be delivered into the Zoom room, and I will appear on your screen.
Our session will last for 70 minutes.

Disadvantages to Sessions Online 

 

Some people are used to communicating on screens for work meetings and family chats, and feel that they have adapted to the differences. Some people may prefer close-up screen sessions, as they can get ‘closer’.

Some people may have different experiences due to the lack of visual and auditory cues and may feel that we are ‘further apart’.

 

Any physical difficulties related to travel to and from a physical therapy room are removed. And sessions are easier to schedule into a busy person's diary due to no transportation time required when having sessions on your screen.

Some people may have unexpected emotional responses during or after sessions. This can be due to psychological processes being impacted by communicating via technology, which can make us say things differently in sessions.

 

There can be an experience of consistency in the regularly occurring therapeutic space, even if the physical space is not consistent (e.g. if people are in varying locations).

There are limits to the amount of confidentiality that a therapist can guarantee to a client when using technology due to communication passing through platforms that the therapist does not own.

Communicating from your own safe protected space might feel preferable to some clients

It may be difficult to organise a safe, private, and quiet place to have the therapy session
